Our Ministry Values
"Core beliefs that drive Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA); this is why we do what we do.

  We Value...

God’s Glory

The glory of God is that which most concerns God and therefore must also be that which most concerns us.  God’s glory ought to be our delight and our joy.  God is holy, sovereign, gracious and merciful; therefore He is worthy of all honor and praise.  To give God glory means that we will seek to give Him His proper due, to enhance people’s opinion about God.  That means all we do, in every area of life, personally and corporately, we do to honor Him; and it is to be done with excellence and in accord with His Word.

The Gospel of Grace

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe it.  All mankind is lost in sin and in need of Christ. The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ accomplished everything necessary for the salvation of sinners.  It is the central theme of the whole Bible.  It is where the grace of God for pardon for sin and deliverance from wrath is found. This gospel is offered freely to all, and by His grace we are able to receive it.  The gospel then is foundational for all we endeavor to accomplish for His glory.

Biblical truth (The Bible)

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired communication to mankind.  It is the only perfect rule to guide our beliefs and our actions and to which every Christian is to joyfully conform by the power of the Holy Spirit.  The Bible is not just an ancient text of old stories but is relevant to the common needs of today.  Therefore we will seek to apply its teaching in a variety of ways and contexts, and it will be the final authority in all matters.  We also believe that one of the clearest summaries of its system of doctrine is found in the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Genuine worship

“Worship is a way of gladly reflecting back to God the radiance of His worth.”  It is the central focus of every believer’s life.  We seek to worship God, the One who saves sinners and transforms them by his grace, in a way that is, exciting, genuine, reverent, participative, joyful and most importantly in accord with His Word.  We seek to do this at the individual level in all of life AND as we gather corporately on the Lord’s Day.

Christian Community

God created human beings to live in community relationships.  The Church is that community designed by God in which loving relationships can be made and nurtured in the proper context through the practical teaching and application of His Word.  This community is exemplified by membership in a local church with all its privileges and responsibilities.  This context also allows for intergenerational worship, instruction and activities that promote Christian community.

Christian Family

Healthy Christian homes honor God and provide stability to our communities. We are committed to helping people build strong, joyous, biblical family relationships.  Therefore, we are committed to promoting the biblical model of family and ministering God’s grace to broken homes.

Relational outreach

We believe Christians are to be salt and light in the world.  We are called to be witnesses of the grace of God in every sphere of life in word and deed.  Rather than retreating from society we must penetrate it with the love of Christ.  Therefore, we will seek to cultivate relationships with non-Christians as an opportunity for the gospel.

Every member ministry

We value the structure God has given to His Church.  Christ is the Chief Shepherd of His flock.  We believe the leaders (elders) of the church are to be genuine servant leaders under Christ, who shepherd and equip the flock.  We believe membership in the flock is the structure God has given for the purpose of ministering to one another by the help and guidance of the elders and lay leaders of the church. As a result one will discover, develop and utilize the particular gift(s) God has given him or her for the building up of the body of Christ.

Prayer

We value prayer because it brings honor to God and because He commands us to “pray without ceasing.”  In prayer we acknowledge that all our efforts are powerless unless God chooses to bless them.  We acknowledge that we are in total dependence on God for all things and look to Him to glorify His name in the building up of Christ’s body, the Church.
